California Sea Grant typically issues a call for research proposals each year in late January.
Who we are funding now:
California Sea Grant issues competitive state and federal research awards that meet our three strategic focus areas:
- Healthy Coastal and Marine Ecosystems
- Sustainable Fisheries & Aquaculture
- Resilient Coastal Communities and Economies.
In collaboration with agency partners, we solicit, receive and conduct reviews of proposals from scientists throughout California to establish a portfolio of research to support specific needs. For approximately 60 projects each year, we administer grants, track progress and evaluate expenditures on awards to assure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Founded in 1973, California Sea Grant is part of a national network, funded and coordinated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. We enhance the practical use and conservation of coastal and marine resources through scientific research, education and extension.
