Sami Michishita graduated with a master's degree in environmental toxicology from UC Santa Cruz in 2021. Her research focused on the presence and potential hormone-disrupting capacity of microplastics in one California coastal system, particularly those ingested by prey fish and seabirds.

Sami is excited to support the policy development for projects concerning ocean water use and discharge at coastal facilities, such as naval bases and power plants, during her fellowship with the State Water Resources Control Board - Division of Water Quality: Ocean Standards Unit.
