Lupita has a strong environmental science background and worked with California Sea Grant on projects at the interface of ecology and human dimensions, including assessing the ecological risks and social vulnerability to recreational seafood harvest in San Diego, and developing and piloting community-science based urban trash survey protocols, science-based marine debris education curriculum for K-12 students, and curriculum for the state's first commercial fishing apprenticeship program.
