Miho Umezawa Ligare holds a master's from UC Santa Barbara's Bren School of Environmental Science and Management and prior to the California Sea Grant fellowship, was an intern with the West Coast Governors' Alliance on Ocean Health.
As a Sea Grant Fellow, she was the main point of contact for the governors' Marine Debris Action Coordination Team and a lead for the state’s highly acclaimed “Thank You Ocean” campaign. From 2015 to 2019, Miho served as California Sea Grant's Research and Fellowships Coordinator. She is now working as Plastic Pollution Policy Coordinator at The Surfrider Foundation.
