Jeremy Smith will graduate with a master's degree in civil and environmental engineering from Stanford University in 2020. His research focuses on bathymetry inversion from temperature sensing fiberoptic cables buried under an experimental sand dune. Smith has also worked as a research assistant at Oregon State University School of Civil & Construction Engineering, a coastal planner at Moffatt & Nichol Engineers, and a restoration intern/researcher at Orange County Coastkeeper.

Smith anticipates working with coastal engineers and geologists on issues related to beach erosion and climate adaptation during his fellowship with the California Coastal Commission.
