Watershed Map

The Russian River watershed covers nearly 1,500 square miles of land in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. The interactive map below includes all streams in the basin known or believed to contain salmon and/or steelhead habitat. Notice that streams above Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino are not shown because there is no anadromous fish passage. Enter a stream name in the search bar or select a stream to see its name. When you zoom into the southwest portion of the basin, you will see four watersheds defined in orange. These streams support coho salmon and steelhead, and have been the subject of intensive monitoring by our program for over a decade. Have fun exploring the watershed!
